The photos inside are not part of the Photos Library. Shared albums are completely different from the standard alums in your library. If you want to send an updated version of your photo using a shared album, you have to share it again, and this will create a new item in the shared album, at the end of the album. When you later apply adjustments in Photos to the photo you shared, the changes will not be applied to the version in your changed album. Once you dropped a postcard into the mailbox, you cannot edit it any longer. It is a new, independent photo, like a postcard or message you send someone. When you add a photo to a shared album, a downsized copy will be added to the shared album and upload to iCloud. They are streams of photos, living outside the photos library.
